16th and 17th century poetry is a very important topic for the students of Honours 3rd Year English. This period is known as the Renaissance, which means rebirth or revival of learning and culture. The poets of this period were influenced by the classical literature of Greece and Rome, as well as by the religious and political changes that took place in England and Europe.
