17th and 18th Century non-fictional prose is a literary genre that covers a wide range of themes and forms, such as essays, biographies, letters, diaries, confessions, dialogues, histories, and more. It is based on fact, but may also contain fictional elements or personal opinions. It reflects the cultural, political, religious, and intellectual contexts of the writers and their times.
In this course, you will learn about the major authors and works of non-fictional prose from the 17th and 18th centuries in England and Europe. You will also learn about the literary techniques, styles, and genres that they used to convey their ideas and experiences. You will read texts by writers such as Francis Bacon, John Milton, Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Samuel Pepys, Jonathan Swift, Daniel Defoe, Samuel Johnson, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and many others.
This course will help you to develop your critical reading and writing skills, as well as your knowledge of literary history and culture. You will also be able to prepare for your upcoming exam in 2022 by following our Suggestion (Short+Broad), which includes important questions and answers from the syllabus.
